The Olympic Rain Shadow

One of the major draws to living in Sequim, Port Townsend, or Port Angeles is the Olympic Rain Shadow, which is often referred to as the “Blue Hole” or “Washington State’s Banana Belt.” This phenomenon is due to a rain shadow effect that in essence robs these regions to the north and east of the Olympic Mountain Range of rain. While these areas still experience rainfall, it is significantly lower than other rainier parts of Washington, like Seattle, Bremerton, or Hoquiam.
